Alcaraz romped to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Serb Medjedovic, while Zverev and Pegula’s fixtures against Brandon Nakashima and Magda Linette were suspended due to unplayable conditions.

Carlos Alcaraz got the better of Hamad Medjedovic to move into the fourth round of the Cincinnati Masters, while Alexander Zverev and Jessica Pegual were en route to wins before rainstorms and lightning played spoilsport on Wednesday.
Zverev was set to serve for the match against Brandon Nakashima, with a 6-4, 5-4 lead in the German’s favour, while Pegula, who rallied against Pole Magda Linette as the match was suspended at 7-6 (7/5), 6-3.

Alcaraz, who romped to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Serb Medjedovic to claim his 50th match win of the year, registered his 13 straight victory at the Masters 1000 level.
“Medjedovic doesn’t like to run that much, so I tried to move him around as much as possible,” Alcaraz said.
“But it was difficult with the ball flying so much and his shots coming so fast. I tried to defend in a good way,” the Spaniard dded.
Alcaraz is set to take on Luca Nardi, who beat Jakob Mensik 6-2, 2-1 with the Czech retiring after 42 minutes.
“I was really happy to get the win in a very difficult match,” the 22-year-old said.
“The season is very long and in at least half of your matches you don’t feel that good physically,” he added.
“But you have to stay positive and play your best tennis on the day. I’m proud about that. It’s a goal of the season,” the five-time Grand Slam winner said.

Ben Shelton did not play against Roberto Bautista Agut due to a rainstorm that led officials to suspend the matches for the night. Meanwhile, Karen Khachanov secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jenson Brooksby.
Francisco Comesano and Reilly Opelka experienced tough conditions during their midday match, which was halted for 45 minutes by rain. Comesano, limping from the effort, managed to save three match points and emerged with a 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-5 win.
Comesano required a medical timeout midway through the second set but returned to the court to engage in a nearly three-hour battle against Opelka. Opelka called for a doctor late in the final set, complaining of dizziness and high blood pressure after being broken at 5-6. Following a brief consultation at his chair, Opelka returned to the court but weakly returned the ball into the net on his opponent’s second match point. Comesano will next face ninth seed Andrey Rublev, who defeated Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/5), 7-5.
Opelka, known for his powerful serve, fired 27 aces but committed nearly 60 unforced errors. Comesano capitalized on four of his 13 break point opportunities. He is the first Argentine to reach the Cincinnati round of 16 since Diego Schwartzman in 2022.
Coco Gauff advanced to the fourth round as Dayana Yastremska withdrew before their scheduled Tuesday match. The 21-year-old American, reigning French Open champion and winner of the 2023 Cincinnati and US Open titles, will next face either former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia or Italian Lucia Bronzetti. Yastremska from Ukraine was unable to play due to illness.
