Clean Cabinet: No Minister in Haryana Facing Criminal Cases, All Crorepatis, Says ADR Report

The report went on to say that all the ministers in the cabinet are crorepatis with their average assets at Rs 30.82 crore.

None of the ministers in the newly formed Haryana Cabinet has declared facing any sort of criminal cases, a new report said, adding all of the 14 leaders have assets worth over Rs 1 crore at least.

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Haryana Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 14 Ministers including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini from Haryana Assembly Elections 2024.

“None of the ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves,” the report released on Friday read.

In the previous cabinet also, that took oath in 2019 and later expanded in 2021, none of the ministers were facing criminal charges. However, the one that took oath in 2014 had one leader with criminal charges against him. This time, 14 ministers took oath, as against 12 in 2019 and 10 in 2014. In 2021, the strength of the 2019 cabinet was extended to 14.

The report went on to say that all the ministers in the cabinet are crorepatis with their average assets at Rs 30.82 crore.

“The minister with the highest declared total assets is Shruti Choudhry from Tosham constituency with assets worth Rs 134.56 crore… while the minister with the lowest declared total assets is Shyam Singh Rana from Radaur constituency with assets worth Rs 1.16 crore,” the report added.

Out of the 14 ministers, ten have declared liabilities and Choudhry is the minister with the highest liabilities of Rs 13.37 crore. Only two ministers have assets worth over Rs 100 crore. Apart from Choudhry, Faridabad MLA Vipul Goel has wealth over Rs 101 crore. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has assets worth Rs 5.80 crore.

In 2019, all the 12 ministers were crorepatis with average assets worth Rs 17.41 crore. In 2014, out of the 10 cabinet ministers, seven were crorepatis and the average assets were Rs 14.73 crore

Out of 14 cabinet ministers, three have declared their educational qualification 12th standard while 11 have declared having an educational qualification of graduate and above.

Four of these ministers are aged between 31 and 50 years while 10 are above the age of 51. The oldest among these are 76-year-old Rana from Radaur, followed by Ambala Cantt MLA Anil Vij who is 71-year-old.

The cabinet has just two women – 48-year-old Choudhry and 45-year-old Arti Singh Rao from Ateli. The last cabinet had just one woman.

Saini and his cabinet took oath of office on Thursday. This is the second time he is taking charge of the state. He became the CM of Haryana for the first time on March 12, 2024.

With 48 seats, the BJP secured a comfortable majority in the 90-member assembly that went for polls earlier this month.
