To clean your jewellery, first soak this nut in water for some time. After a few minutes, rub it on your hand to create a foam similar to soap. Use this foam to clean the jewellery, including gold and silver. These foam-producing trees grow naturally along the coast, but their numbers have been declining in recent years.
This nut was primarily used in gold shops, as gold and silver jewellery tends to blacken with use or disuse. The blackened ornaments were cleaned with this natural soap to remove all the dirt.
However, in the last 10 years, machines have largely replaced this method of cleaning. Despite this, the tradition of cleaning certain ornaments with this nut continues today. Specifically, this method is still used to clean the ornaments of deities.
