Parliament Winter Session 2024: The Congress-Soros link allegations struck the Parliament on Thursday as the BJP raised the issue in Rajya Sabha, leading to chaos in the Upper House.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House till 2 pm today amid chaos.
Govt Vs Opposition Over Sonia Gandhi-Soros Link Charge
Leader of the House and BJP national president JP Nadda raised the issue and said that the country deserves to know the “relationship” between Congress MP Sonia Gandhi and US billionaire George Soros, who is accused of orchestrating an anti-India agenda to de-stabilize the Narendra Modi government.
“The country wants to know what is Sonia Gandhi’s relationship with Soros,” Nadda said.
“The Soros who donates billions of dollars to destabilise this country, the Congress becomes his puppet and raises his voice and destabilises the country. It should be condemned,” the BJP president charged in the House.
As the Chairman allowed Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to respond, chaos spread across the House.
“They want to distract the issue,” Kharge said amid the din.
As the commotion persisted, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2 pm.
Nadda Slams Kharge Over Dhankhar Impeachment Bid
Nadda, the Union Minister, also slammed Kharge for his remarks against Dhankhar against whom the Opposition has moved a no-confidence motion.
“The Chair’s decisions, including those regarding admissibility, are beyond question. Criticising or questioning the Chairman’s rulings constitutes contempt of the House and disrespect towards the Chair,” he said.
He said that Kharge publicly criticised the Chair at a press conference which is both “objectionable and deeply condemnable”.
“Such actions set a wrong precedent, and we cannot denounce this strongly enough,” he said.
