US President Donald Trump added fuel to his escalating feud with Elon Musk as he said that he would “take a look” on whether he would consider deporting the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who was born in South Africa. The comment came after the US President lashed out at Elon Musk over his criticism of the Trump administration’s tax-cut and spending bill.
Donald Trump told the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to review all federal subsidies and contracts awarded to Elon Musk’s companies, calling him the recipient of more government funding “than any human being in history.”
“No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric car production, and our country would save a FORTUNE,” Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that DOGE should “take a good, hard look” at Elon Musk’s businesses as “BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
Can Elon Musk Be Deported? A Look At His Citizenship
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, was born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1971. He later moved to Canada at the age of 17, gaining Canadian citizenship through his mother, who was born in Saskatchewan. Elon Musk eventually moved to the United States to attend the University of Pennsylvania and later became a naturalized US citizen in 2002, making him a triple citizen of South Africa, Canada and the United States.
Despite his South African origins, Elon Musk’s professional life and global influence have been primarily rooted in the US, where his companies hold significant federal contracts most notably, SpaceX’s partnerships with NASA and the Department of Defense.
