Cousin Safieddine Or Hezbollah “No. 2” Qassem – Who Will Succeed Nasrallah As Israel Pounds Lebanon?

Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who led the group for 32 years, was killed in an Israeli strike on Sept. 27 in Beirut. The killing of Nasrallah has left a vacuum in the movement that has already had much of its leadership decapitated as a result of months of Israeli assassinations. Finding a replacement of a similar stature will be difficult for Hezbollah amid continued Israeli air attacks and even a possible ground invasion. There are, however, two leading figures thought to be in contention to be Nasrallah’s successor: Hashem Safieddine and Naim Qassem.
