‘Cowardly’: PM Modi Condemns Attack On New Year Crowd In New Orleans

At least 15 people were killed and 30 others were injured after a truck rammed into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Day at New Orleans in the United States.

PM Modi condemns New Orleans terror attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday “strongly condemned” the terrorist attack in New Orleans in which at least 10 people were killed and dozens were injured.

“We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy,” PM Modi posted on X.

New Orleans Terror Attack

The New Year celebrations turned tragic in the US city as an Army veteran drove a pickup truck with an ISIS flag into the crowd, killing 15 people and leaving at least 30 others injured. He opened fire at the police personnel present on the spot but was shot dead in retaliatory firing.

After initial denial, the FBI termed the incident an “act of terrorism” and suspected that the driver did not act alone.

The investigators also discovered multiple IEDs, and two pipe bombs hidden in coolers and wired for remote detonation.

Joe Biden On New Orleans Attack

Outgoing US President Joe Biden said that the FBI is leading an investigation to ascertain “what happened, why it happened and whether there was any continuing threat to public safety”.

“To all the families of those who are killed, to all those who are injured, to all the people of New Orleans who are grieving today, I want you to know I grieve with you. Our nation grieves with you,” he said.
