New York City apartments aren’t known for their sprawling space – so one group of friends took matters into their own hands in the most New York way possible.
The enthusiastic group who wanted to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together in the Big Apple took it outside – to the subway.
The festive scene was shared to TikTok by user Akriti, who captioned the clip: ‘When your NYC apt isn’t big enough to host a Thanksgiving dinner.’
‘Only in New York?’ she wrote on the video.Â
The short clip showed a subway car filled with five people sitting at a beautifully set table, complete with an orange tablecloth, candle and decorative pumpkin.
The table was laden with food, as the guests ate and chatted to each other.
A man sitting at the head of the fold-up table started to carve the turkey, while fellow passengers around them looked unfazed.
The comments on the video were mixed, with some disgusted over the idea of eating on public transport.Â

‘I can’t eat on the train. I feel like the air is contaminated or misters water is gonna get on my food,’ one user wrote.
‘Wait I NEED to know how did you do this lmao but also… is it sanitary?’ questioned another.Â
‘The one where they had Thanksgiving on the subway,’ joked another, making a Friends reference.Â
‘My problem is y’all know they not sharing with the homeless who actually don’t have Thanksgiving or have to celebrate in the train,’ criticized another.Â
‘Only transplants do dumb sh*t like this for likes. This is selfish and inconvenient for commuters, especially disabled commuters,’ another raged.
It’s not unusual for bizarre things to happen on the New York subway.
In September, a video doing the rounds online showed live crabs that escaped from a woman’s bag on the train – thus terrorizing the entire car.
It’s not known when the video was initially filmed, but it was filmed by Instagram user Ian O’Conner.

In the clip, a woman was seen frantically pushing a paper bag into the middle of the train after it broke.
The bag contained live crabs with the assumed owner of the crabs briefly attempting to put them back in the as bag.
Meanwhile, passengers around them made sure to stay out of the crabs’ way.Â
Social media users were captivated by what they could see, as shocked viewers looked on while someone else attempted to move the bag, which appeared to be broken.
