Cristiano Ronaldo’s misfortune with his Saudi side Al Nassr continues to haunt him, as the Portuguese legend missed out on a crucial match-tying penalty in the 96th minute, that could have saved his side from elimination at the Kings Cup on Tuesday.
After an encouraging start to Stefano Pioli’s reign, Al-Nassr are once struggling to win matches. A late Anderson Talisca penalty saved their blushes against Al-Kholood last Friday but on Tuesday evening they were knocked out of the Kings Cup competition following a 1-0 defeat.
Al-Ahmed scored the match-winning strike in the 71st minute for Al-Taawoun, heading in a bullet into the back of the net to take the lead.
With the game and survival in the tournament on the line, the ball was placed on the penalty spot in the 96th minute for Cristiano Ronaldo to take the kick.
Ronaldo though, known for his nerves of steel and his uncanny knack for scoring spot kicks, had a moment of utter despair, as the Portuguese skied the ball high and ugly, flying over the goal post along with Al-Nassr hopes of staying in the competition.

To add insult to injury, a closer look at the missed penalty also showed that Ronaldo just obliterated a kid’s phone in the stands along with the kid himself, who seemingly fell down upon impact with the ball off the forward’s strike.
There is no salvaging this for Ronaldo, who once again failed to get his Saudi side in the hunt for major silverware.
The iconic forward though was quick to react and reply to his error, taking to social media, posting a picture captioned, “Every challenge is an opportunity to grow”.
Next in line for Al-Nassr are none other than the Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal, who will bring a fierce top-flight fight against Ronaldo and co. on Friday.
