World Chess Championship 2024 LIVE Updates Game 8:
Indian challenger D Gukesh and Chinese champion Ding Liren get back to the main board on Wednesday for the eighth game of the World Chess Championship 2024 Final in Singapore.
The 14-game series stands tied at 3.5 points each at the end of Game 7 which ended in a draw on Tuesday.
Liren began the summit clash playing against the odds despite being the defending champion due to a slump in form in the year, but came out of the gates with a statement win in the opening game, before going on to hold out for a draw in the second.
Gukesh restored parity in the third game as he dug out his first win after Liren ran the clock out before his 40th move.
The players went on to share the spoils in games four through seven to stand with nothing between them as the game heads into the second half of the fixtures.
How Will The Title Be Decided?
For a player to be crowned the champion, one would need a total of 7.5 games from the total of 14 games. A win results in one point, a draw entitles 0.5 and a loss is 0 points respectively. If the match ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreak will be held the following day to determine the winner.
This year’s tournament marks the first time in 138 years that two Asian players will be pitted against each other in the summit clash, with a prize money of USD 2.5 million going to the winner.
