“Dangerous Biological Pathogen” Chinese Researchers Accused Of Smuggling Crop-Killing Fungus To US

Five years after the Covid-19 virus is likely to have leaked from a lab in Wuhan and killed more than 7 million people across the world, China could be behind something equally menacing. FBI Director Kash Patel made a stunning claim – that two Chinese nationals were arrested in the US for allegedly smuggling a “dangerous biological pathogen” into the country which had the potential to be used as an agricultural terrorism weapon. According to an FBI criminal complaint, Zunyong Liu – a researcher currently in China, brought a fungus into the United States while visiting his girlfriend, Yunqing Jian in July 2024. Liu admitted that he smuggled the pathogen to conduct research at a University of Michigan laboratory where his girlfriend worked. Jian received Chinese government funding for her work on this pathogen in China. Her electronic devices also contain information linking her to the Chinese Communist Party. A scientific article on her phone titled “Plant-Pathogen Warfare under Changing Climate Conditions”, further raised alarmbells.
