Deepika Singh recalled the moment she was shortlisted for her debut role as Sandhya in Diya Aur Baati Hum.

Deepika Singh catapulted to fame with her debut show, Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum, which co-starred Anas Rashid and Neelu Vaghela. The serial, which aired from 2011-2016, was loved by many for its interesting storyline, and audiences enjoyed the chemistry between Sandhya and Sooraj. Recently, the show’s lead actress, Deepika, shared that the Almighty helped her in bagging the role in Diya Aur Baati Hum.

During her interaction with the ETimes, the 35-year-old actress recalled an anecdote about being called for the look test of Diya Aur Baati Hum in Mumbai. She said, “When I was in Delhi, I used to often dream about Ganpati ji, and my mom was seeing suitable grooms for me in those days, so I thought I would marry somewhere where there would be Ganesh ji’s temple. And then, I got shortlisted for Diya Aur Baati, and I came to Mumbai.”

She further added, “My situation was dicey regarding the role in the show, so I had a divine intention to stay in Mumbai for a bit more time. I knew about the famous Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai, so I decided to pay Bappa a visit, and it was during the visit that I got a call from the show that I had been shortlisted. They called me and asked me to come for a final look test with Anas.”

Deepika revealed that she remembered praying at Siddhivinayak Temple to have her show’s biggest poster closest to the temple premises. While she was sceptical, her wish came true. The actress mentioned, “I remember I was at Siddhivinayak Temple, and I only prayed ‘, Dear god, I wish my show’s huge poster gets posted opposite your temple.’ And I had told it without any firm intention as I didn’t know whether I would get the show or not. However, after a month or more, my biggest hoarding for the show was put up right opposite Siddhivinayak temple. When I went there and saw it, I felt that Bappa heard me. It was an extremely emotional moment, and I used to go to Siddhivinayak every Tuesday.”

In 2014, Deepika married Rohit Raj Goyal, a director of Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum. In 2017, she welcomed her first child, a baby boy. After that, she starred on Colors TV’s supernatural show Kavach… Mahashivratri. Currently, she stars in Colors TV’s family Mangal Laxmi alongside Sanika Amit, Naman Shaw and Shubham Dipta.
