Mitch Hassenbein, his wife Jaime Hassenbein and Lynn Falkowitz lashed out at Indian-American Amandeep Singh for the murder their children on Friday, calling him the “definition of evil”, according to a report by the New York Post.

A Nassau County court sentenced Amandeep Singh up to 25 years for the deaths of the two eighth-graders Ethan Falkowitz and Drew Hassenbein. The accident happened in May 2023.

“Instead of picking up my son at school, I had to identify him at the morgue. It’s inhuman torture,” Mitch, Drew’s father, said.

“I’m a broken, bitter, angry man, filled with a dark side, and trying to navigate a foreign world. You ripped the heart out of our family. He gave my son a death sentence, and all of us a life sentence”.

Singh, was driving at 153 kmph in the wrong direction on North Broadway—where the speed limit is 64 kmph—when he crashed his 2019 Dodge Ram into an Alfa Romeo carrying four teenagers.

Singh was allegedly intoxicated and under the influence of cocaine, with a blood alcohol level of .15, nearly double the legal limit. Police also recovered a bottle of tequila from his vehicle.

Following the crash, the married father of two attempted to flee and hid behind a dumpster at a nearby shopping complex. He was later caught by police.

Prosecutors revealed that Singh was so inebriated that he believed he was in New Jersey at the time of his arrest.

Zachary Sheena, one of the survivors of the accident, called Singh a “coward”.

Singh pleaded guilty in January to a 15-count indictment that included charges of manslaughter, vehicular homicide, assault, drunk driving and fleeing the accident scene, among others.

He expressed remorse for the devastating crash, admitting that there was no justification for his actions.

“This was caused by my risky behavior, a careless choice and a tragic decision,” he told the court.

“I accept all the blame. I am guilty of every single thing that I’ve caused. I accept the punishment. Your anger towards me is fully understood and justified. I also condemn myself for the chaos I brought to your lives. I have to live with this in my conscience until the day I die.”
