The Delhi Capitals will look to fine-tune their squad despite having the smallest purse ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2025 Player Auction set to take place on Sunday.
The Head Coach of the women’s franchise, Jonathan Batty remains confident ahead of the auction.
“I’m not too worried about having the smallest purse in the room because we’ve got relatively small amount of shopping to do,’’ he shared.
“We’ve done our discussions leading up to the auction, and our scouting team has had a thorough look at a lot of local talent during the off-season. We’re confident of filling in the minor gaps and making our squad most complete,” he added.
Ahead of the auction, Delhi Capitals had released Poonam Yadav, Laura Harris, Aparna Mondal and Ashwani Kumari.
“We look at stats, a whole lot of data, and also integrate it all with the wealth of experience that’s there already,” Batty added.
“Sourav Ganguly’s experience in the game is second to none in world cricket. We pick his brain on how we can improve, what we can look to do in the auction as well.”
In both editions of the Women’s Premier League, the Delhi Capitals led by Meg Lanning have been a force to be reckoned with. Despite this, they have fallen short at the final hurdle twice having lost to Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively.
It remains to be seen how the franchise approaches the upcoming auction. With just a purse of Rs 2.5 Crore it will be interesting to see their new additions to the side as they aim to go all the way for the upcoming season and have their maiden title.
The WPL auction is set to take place in Bengaluru and is expected to start at around 3 PM (IST). The event will be televised live on the Sports18 Network and will also be streamed live on the JioCinema App.
