Fever, chills, body pains, coughing, sore throat, exhaustion and occasionally diarrhoea or vomiting are among the symptoms.
Experts recommend precautions: annual flu shots, frequent hand washing, avoiding face touching, wearing masks, and disinfecting surfaces.
Delhi NCR has been witnessing a sharp rise in the cases of swine flu virus infections. According to a survey conducted by LocalCircles, at least one person in 54 per cent of households is displaying signs of flu (H1N1), including fever, sore throat, cough, headache, stomach flu, joint pain and respiratory problems.
These symptoms are overloading medical facilities and creating fear among the public since they closely resemble COVID-19. Medical experts are warning the public to take the necessary precautions as hospitals report an increase in patients with high fever, chronic cough, sore throat and body aches.
Officials have stated that they are monitoring the situation and looking for any unexpected surge because seasonal illnesses are at their highest and air quality is playing a big role in exacerbating respiratory issues. The sharp rise of flu (H1N1) cases that has taken place in the nation’s capital in recent weeks has both the public and health specialists alarmed.
Experts claim that the current outbreak is the worst in many years. While the disease used to last five to seven days, it now lasts about ten days. Another notable change is the prevalence of wheezing, chest congestion and shortness of breath. Fever, coughing and colds used to be the usual signs of flu. The difference is substantial when compared to previous seasonal trends.
What is H1N1 Influenza?
The H1N1 influenza virus is the cause of swine flu, often known as H1N1 influenza. Similar to seasonal flu, it was first contracted from pigs to humans but is now primarily spread between individuals.
Fever, cough, sore throat, body pains, exhaustion, chills and occasionally diarrhoea or vomiting are among the symptoms. In extreme situations, it may result in respiratory distress or pneumonia.
Follow these safety measures if you are in an area that has a high risk.
- The annual flu shot, which offers protection against H1N1, is the most effective method of preventing H1N1.
- Hands should be frequently washed with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser, particularly after coming into contact with public surfaces.
- Avoid touching your face since the virus spreads when you touch your mouth, nose, or eyes after coming into contact with contaminated surfaces.
- Wearing a high-quality mask (N95 or higher) reduces your chances of inhaling contaminated droplets in crowded or poorly ventilated environments.
- When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow, and make sure to properly dispose of tissues.
- Use disinfectants to clean high-touch surfaces like keyboards, phone screens, and doorknobs regularly.
- Steer clear of close contact with those who are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
- Drink a lot of water to keep your respiratory system healthy.
