Delta flight attendant accused of shocking attempted murder of colleague

A Delta airlines flight attendant has been accused of trying to kill a female coworker in a drunken rampage.

Joshua Smith, 36, was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly slashed a fellow flight attendant in the neck during a night out in New Orleans on Monday.

Smith’s coworkers told police he was blacked out and ‘acting strangely’ on their way to their hotel, where they were staying during a layover.

A female colleague was escorting Smith to his room at the Hilton Hotel when an argument ensued and he slashed her twice on the arm and once on the neck, according to police.

Smith reportedly followed the woman when she fled to another room on a different floor of the hotel.

He slashed a security guard on the thumb when they tried to intervene.

It’s unclear what weapon Smith used during the drunken attack.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Smith’s attorney Thomas Calogero told NBC News that his client does not remember the incident because he was so drunk after partying with colleagues at the Big Easy.

He added that he does not believe there ‘was an intent to murder.’

‘The group was drinking and he had blacked out,’ Calogero said. ‘He has no memory of the incident at all, nothing.’

A Delta spokesperson said the airline has ‘zero tolerance for violence against or among our people and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement officials.’

Smith faces attempted second-degree murder and various other battery and assault charges.

It’s not clear if he has entered a plea.

His bond was set at $173,000 and he has been barred from any Hilton Hotel properties, WSBTV reported.
