Lamine Yamal steals the spotlight yet again, having been nominated for two major honours, the Ballon d’Or and the Kopa Trophy, as he headlines the nominees list for the 2025 edition of the acclaimed award.
The 2024-25 season didn’t have the same international tournaments as its two predecessors, and so the destination of the Ballon d’Or will be decided almost solely by club performances. That opened it up to all sorts of individuals who might not share the same success with their countries as others.
France Football, who organize the Ballon d’Or awards, announced the nominees for the 2025 edition on Thursday, ahead of the grand ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on September 22.
The shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or nominees were released today, and they were as follows:

Nominees For 2025 Kopa Trophy
Lamine Yamal headlined the nominees for the men’s Ballon d’Or Kopa Trophy for the best player under the age of 21.
The names were announced today as Yamal was joined on the 10-man shortlist by Barca team-mate Pau Cubarsi and Real Madrid centre-half Dean Huijsen, who moved to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer from Bournemouth.
Arsenal full-back Myles Lewis-Skelly is included, as is Chelsea new boy Estevao Willian and PSG duo Desire Doue and Joao Neves.
Yamal is the overwhelming favourite to retain the trophy, however, after a wonderful season that saw him continue his emergence for club and country.
