The House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted against pursuing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
Texas Democrat Rep. Al Green, who for months has vowed to impeach the president, filed articles of impeachment against the president Tuesday morning.
Since screaming and waving his cane to interrupt Trump’s joint speech to Congress in March, Green has worked to get the Republican officially impeached for a third time.
The Democrat announced in the morning that he filed a privileged resolution, meaning it had to be voted on quickly.
The articles accused Trump of abusing his presidential powers and devolving the U.S. into an ‘authoritarian government, usurping congressional power to declare war.’
‘I do it because I understand that the President of the United States of America has a duty to consult Congress before taking this country to war,’ Green said during his announcement.
‘I take no delight in what I’m doing,’ he added with a tone of righteousness.
However, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Democrat’s whirlwind effort was an abysmal failure.

Trump called on Democrats to impeach him on Tuesday, asking them to ‘make my day’
In a vote to tee-up the impeachment vote, 128 Democrats voted against their colleague’s push to remove Trump, siding with all 216 Republicans.
Just 79 Democrats voted to advance the impeachment effort, while 344 from the left and right voted to oppose it.
Refuting Green’s claims that Trump’s actions in Iran are unconstitutional, Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Tuesday that Trump’s authority to strike Iran is constitutionally protected, specifically under Article II.
It’s the same authority that former President Barack Obama carried out airstrikes in Libya in 2011, Republicans have argued.
Green’s folly comes just hours after the president practically dared progressive ‘Squad’ leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to impeach him again.
‘Stupid AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the “dumbest” people in Congress, is now calling for my Impeachment, despite the fact that the crooked and corrupt Democrats have already done that twice before,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social Tuesday morning.
‘She and her Democrat friends have just hit the lowest poll numbers in congressional history, so go ahead and try impeaching me, again, make my day!’
AOC was the first lawmaker to call for the Republican to be impeached after the president announced U.S. strikes in Iran on Saturday.

Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., announced he is bringing articles of impeachment against Trump in a video address posted in April. His effort to remove Trump also failed
Last month, the president warded off yet another bid for his impeachment by a House Democrat from Michigan.
Rep. Shri Thanedar, a low-profile rank-and-file member, proposed seven articles of impeachment against the 79-year-old, including bribery, abuse of power, obstruction of justice and more.
Trump slammed Thanedar as a ‘lowlife’ at the time.
‘The Democrats are really out of control,’ the president wrote on social media. ‘They have lost everything, especially their minds! These radical left lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again.’
