Delhi CM Swearing-In Ceremony: Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday, bringing back the BJP government to the national capital after 27 years.
Gupta took the oath of the office in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, other Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers of the NDA-ruled states at a grand event in the historic Ramlila Maidan in the city.
Besides Gupta, six other faces were sworn in on the occasion as ministers.
Who were the six MLAs to be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers?
Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Ravinder Indraj were the BJP leaders who took the oath as ministers.
Parvesh Verma:
Verma is a two-time BJP MP who became the giant killer by defeating Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency in the Assembly polls. He is also the son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma and was in the race for Delhi CM post, several reports emerged after the February 8 election results. He is also a prominent Jat face for the BJP in Delhi.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa:
Sirsa is the Sikh face of the BJP in Delhi. He won the polls from Rajouri Garden. He was also speculated to be considered for the CM post. He was previously with the Shiromani Akali Dal and is a three-time MLA. He was a key figure during the farmers’ protest against the three farm laws, where he frequently arranged langars for the protesting farmers camping on the roads of Delhi.
Kapil Mishra:
Kapil Mishra was previously in the Aam Aadmi Party before he quit the party alleging Arvind Kejriwal’s corruption. He joined the BJP in 2019. He was sworn in as the Minister after emerging victorious from the Karawal Nagar constituency. He is the son of former East Delhi mayor Annapurna Mishra and Rameshwar Mishra, a socialist leader.
Ashish Sood:
Sood, a prominent face in the Punjabi community in the city, is a first-time MLA from Janakpuri. He defeated AAP’s Parveen Kumar. He has been the vice president of the party’s Delhi unit. He has been the BJP’s Goa in-charge and co-incharge of the party for Jammu and Kashmir.
He also has experience in the administrative field during the BJP’s reign in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Pankaj Kumar Singh:
Singh, a dentist by profession, is a first-time MLA from Vikaspuri (South-West) constituency. He defeated Mahinder Yadav of AAP. He is a Purvanchali leader who has been actively involved in social services.
Ravinder Indraj Singh:
Indraj Singh is the Dalit face of the BJP in Delhi. He emerged victorious in the Bawana (SC) constituency in the polls, defeating AAP’s Jai Bhagwan Upkar. He was also an executive member of the party’s SC Morcha.
