Despite getting a hefty fine and a demerit point from the BCCI last time, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowler Digvesh Rathi repeated his notebook celebration after getting Mumbai Indians (MI)’s Naman Dhir out in IPL 2025 on Friday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
It happened in the ninth over of the second innings. Dhir tried to flick the first ball of the spinner’s over to the leg side but got a thin inside edge that sneaked through to castle him. He first did the small dance-like celebration, which looked inspired by Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, followed by the famous notebook gesture — where he pretends to strike off the batter’s name — while looking at Dhir.

He did something similar in the previous match against Punjab Kings. There, after getting the opener and his Delhi mate Priyansh Arya out cheaply, he walked and stood beside him to do the notebook celebration.
The IPL reprimanded him with one demerit point and a fine of 25% of his match fees. Digvesh admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 and accepted the sanction. Collection of demerit points can lead to further fines and even bans.
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Punjab Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday,” the IPL had said in a statement.
Last year, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s Harshit Rana had been warned twice for his celebrations before the BCCI took objection to his ‘flying-kiss’ gesture in one game and banned him for the trip of Wankhede Stadium for a match against Mumbai Indians.
