Detroit Tigers exec abruptly resigns amid claims he sent unsolicited pics of his genitals to female coworkers

Sam Menzin, the Detroit Tigers assistant general manager, resigned on Thursday amid allegations he sent unsolicited photographs of his genitals to two former club employees.

‘Upon being made aware of the allegations as to Sam Menzin’s conduct, the club promptly completed an investigation,’ a team spokesman told DailyMail.com in a statement.

‘Before the club could terminate Mr. Menzin, he resigned,’ the statement continued. ‘This type of behavior is contrary to our standards and has absolutely no place within our organization. We have a positive and safe culture for our colleagues and will continue to emphasize respect, inclusion, and professionalism.’

Tigers Compliance & Investigation Business Partner Danny Rosengard has been in contact with Menzin’s accusers, according to The Athletic, which first reported the alleged misconduct.

Menzin told The Athletic via text message on Friday that he was seeking a career change and wanted to move home to New York to handle ‘some family issues.’ However, on Monday, he did not respond to calls and texts from The Athletic.  DailyMail.com’s attempts to contact Menzin have been unsuccessful thus far.

Two women who previously worked for the Tigers told The Athletic that the 34-year-old Menzin sent them photographs of his genitals via Snapchat, a social media app that automatically deletes images once they are viewed.

Both women say they received lewd photographs from Menzin at several times since 2017. Meanwhile, a third woman told The Athletic she received a similar text message from Menzin around 2018 or 2019. The third woman works in baseball, but not for the Tigers, according to The Athletic.

Menzin’s accusers shared their stories with other individuals who have since relayed those details to The Athletic.

Asked why Menzin’s allegedly inappropriate messages hadn’t been revealed until now, one female employee with the Tigers described a difficult atmosphere for any such whistleblower.

‘It’s like no one says anything because who is going to believe them when they say Sam Menzin did this?’ she asked. ‘It’s not like a bat boy or security guard. It’s Sam Menzin.

‘It always felt like saying something wasn’t an option, because who is going to believe you and do anything about it? It’s just this overall sense that [reporting something] wasn’t an option.’

A graduate of the prestigious Friends Academy on Long Island, Menzin pitched at Swarthmore before interning with the New York Mets and ultimately joining the Tigers in 2012 as a baseball operations intern.

He would soon be promoted to analyst and coordinator in baseball operations under decorated former general manager Dave Dombrowski.

In 2021, Menzin was promoted to assistant general manager.

He has also played a role in Major League Baseball’s annual Take The Field program, which is aimed at helping women gain employment in the sport.

‘There are so many people who are eager to get into baseball, and they just don’t know how,’ Menzin told MLB.com. ‘This is a great way for them to get their foot in the door, meet people, network. I keep in touch with people from Take the Field from years past. They’ll email every six months, every 12 months, to keep in touch.’

As reported by The Athletic, Menzin worked a full day on Thursday before abruptly resigning later that night.
