This time around, the wedding season promises a continuous series of ceremonies and vibrant market activity, with businesses anticipating a strong demand for wedding-related goods and services.
In Sanatan Dharma, the timing of marriage ceremonies is deeply connected to auspicious dates, known as muhurats, determined by astrologers to ensure blessings for the couple. Many parents carefully consult astrologers to select a favourable muhurat before planning the wedding festivities. Dev Uthani Ekadashi traditionally signals the start of the annual marriage season in India, a time eagerly awaited by families, as it aligns with the spiritual blessings of the season.
After Diwali, shopkeepers are excited about the wedding season. Since the past month, the markets are buzzing with the shopping for wedding items. There is an increased hustle and bustle in the clothes, jewellery and furniture markets of Barmer. Women are shopping for lehengas, sarees and jewellery, while the relatives of the bride and groom are shopping for cars and electronics items. Due to the wedding season, the demand for confectioners and pandits has also increased.
Apart from this, advance booking has also been done for dharamshalas, banquet halls, marriage gardens, farm houses and vehicles. According to Pandit Omprakash Joshi from Barmer, the upcoming wedding season is filled with several auspicious dates for marriages and other ceremonies.
