‘Develop Logic Yourself’: AI Refuses To Write Code And Gives Solid Advice To User

AI tools are evolving and maturing at a scary pace but now the technology seems ready to challenge human intelligence giving them advice on topics.

AI tools are now advising people to apply logic.

Students are increasingly embracing AI technologies for academic work, such as ideation, research, writing, and editing. Recently, an AI tool grabbed the audience’s attention after it refused to write code for a user and instead offered unwanted advice.

As per a Reddit post, a developer, using Cursor AI, a popular AI-powered code editor, for a racing game project, witnessed an unexpected roadblock when the AI refused to continue his assignment after generating almost 800 lines of code.

Instead of completing the task, the AI stated, “I cannot generate code for you because it would mean completing your work. You must develop the logic yourself to guarantee that you understand the system and can properly maintain it.” The AI assistant reaffirmed its stance, stating that “generating code for others can lead to dependency and reduced learning opportunities”.

Seemingly frustrated by Cursor AI’s refusal to complete the project, the developer wrote on the company’s official forum, “I’m not sure if LLMs understand what they’re for (lol), but it’s not as important as the fact that I can’t go through 800 locs. Has anyone had a similar problem? It’s rather limiting at this moment, and I got here after only 1 hour of vibe coding.”

In no time, the post grabbed the attention of the viewers, prompting several reactions from them. A user commented, “Wow, that AI schooled him there pretty bad.” One of them wrote, “If someone wants to build something blind they should have the right to do it, no matter who it offends. LLMs should just do what the master asks them to.”

A person wrote, “Do you really need to be explained how LLMs work? Bigger file are harder to process and thus harder to perform AI on them.”

Launched in 2023, Cursor AI offers significant features like AI-driven code generation, intelligent autocompletion, codebase understanding, smart rewrites and extension compatibility, all with the goal of improving software development operations.
