“It was a great race, I’m really glad to be healthy,” said Lyles.
“This shows I’m still in the game,” the American said following his triumph on his return from a tendon injury.
“I love the vibe in Monaco! The audience was amazing and showed a lot of love. That is always helpful for your first race,” he reflected.
“I pray for times like this to be out here and do what I love. I come out here and I give my best,” Lyles continued.
“I put myself in the fire for that one coming back against Tebogo,” he added.
“But I didn’t feel any pressure, I don’t see any reason to put pressure on myself — that’s what we love to do,” the 27-year-old said.
Tebogo came in second behind the American after being unable to complete his full warm-up routine after the runners were called in early to the waiting room ahead of the race.
“First of all, I am disappointed in my performance,” the Botswana sprinter said.
“But that is not an excuse. All of us came and showed up. I am always on the game, that is why I sometimes look serious. I now have the idea of what to work on,” he added.
Dutch athlete Femke Bol clinched the top spot in the women’s 400m hurdles with her maiden win at the principality as she edged out American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone with a time of 51.95sec.
“Running 51 is always very special, I don’t do that every day,” Bol said.
“I am feeling good so far this season, I had a great start to it,” the Dutchwoman continued
“I also did two 400m flats but I could see my shape getting better,” she added.
