Tech billionaire Elon Musk received flak after a video went viral showing him “abandoning” his four-year-old son X Æ A-12 during a rally last month. Musk was seen walking off without a backward while his son struggled to walk down the stairs.
The viral clip showed the Tesla CEO exiting the stage in what appeared to be a MAGA rally with US President Donald Trump speaking, with his son trotting behind, waving to the crowd. The young child appeared to struggle while descending down the steps without any adult supervision, while the billionaire kept walking ahead.
The purported video prompted heated comments from Musk’s critics and supporters, with many criticising him for his careless treatment of his son. “Elon Musk walks off and leaves his 4 year old son wandering off stage by himself. This clip legitimately disturbs—and saddens—me,” wrote one individual.

“The so-called genius forgot his human shield son. What a loving father,” wrote another individual on X. “Video clip shows how terrible & absent of a parent Elon Musk truly is. Any normal dad would be holding his son’s hand (especially down the step), walking side by side, etc,” said a netizen. A user mockingly referred to him as the “Father of the year”, saying he “forgot to wrap his human shield son around his head this time, abandoning him instead.”

Did Elon Musk Really Leave His Son Behind?
However, Musk’s supporters rallied to his defence and posted an extended footage of the rally, where the billionaire noticed that X was struggling and turned back to check on him. The new clip showed Musk encouraging his son to manage the steps independently and then pumped his fists in a show of support for the child.
Referring to the video, an individual remarked, “The liar who posted and earlier clip claiming that Elon left his son behind you’ve been exposed”. Another netizen made strong remarks, saying, “You’re such a f***ing liar. I was there. F*** you.”

X Æ A-12, also known as X, was born in 2020 to Musk and Canadian musician Grimes and has become a popular face at his father’s appearances. He was recently brought to the White House and stood by his father during a meeting with President Trump.
The child was also seen picking his nose- videos of which were widely shared on social media- as Elon Musk spoke to reporters present in the Oval Office. X made headlines when he appeared to tell Trump, “You’re not the president… you need to go away.”
Grimes was apparently displeased with the tech boss for taking their four-year-old son to the Oval Office where Donald Trump signed an executive order to bolster DOGE’s powers.
