Diwali 2024: Jeet’s journey towards self-reliance began when he asked his father for cashew barfis one Diwali, and his father, who is a mechanic, could not afford it
A seven-year-old boy from Thakurgaon, a small village near Ranchi, is setting a remarkable example for everyone this Diwali. The festival of lights brings joy and prosperity to homes, and to spread this joy, Jeet has taken on a responsibility far beyond his years.
Jeet is selling clay diyas and other decorative items to ensure his family’s Diwali is truly joyful. He personally makes these clay items to sell, and at such a young age, he has decided to support his family financially.
According to reports, Jeet has been making clay diyas for the past two years. This year, he has crafted around 10,000 diyas, some of which are specially designed and priced between Rs 30 to Rs 40. He also crafts other clay decorations, such as small elephants and horses, which people purchase for their children or to decorate their homes.
Jeet’s mother also supports him in this work, helping him make the diyas and other items, and then Jeet goes to the market sell them. This festive season, Jeet’s efforts have earned him around Rs 12,000 to Rs 13,000.
How It Started?
Jeet’s journey towards self-reliance began when he asked his father for a cashew barfi one Diwali, and his father, who is a mechanic, could not afford it. This left a lasting impact on Jeet, who decided to earn his own money to support the family during Diwali season.
He learned diya-making from an elderly man in the village, and with his mother’s help, started crafting and selling them in the market. Jeet’s earnings have brought renewed joy to his household, and sweet treats of all kinds are prepared there now.
Towards bigger dreams
Jeet says he has been told by some people that it’s not right for him to work at such a young age, and that his father also discouraged him initially. However, Jeet has maintained his confidence and is committed to taking on greater responsibilities in his studies and life by contributing to his family’s needs. He is currently studying at DN Public School and dreams of becoming a successful businessman one day.
