In summer, many people are troubled by the heat, sweat, and stickiness. However, the season also brings a sweet gift from nature that people eagerly await all year, the king of fruits, the mango. Despite its popularity, some hesitate to eat mangoes, fearing weight gain or a spike in blood sugar. According to renowned nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, famous as Kareena Kapoor’s diet expert, avoiding mangoes is a mistake.

Rujuta Diwekar clarifies that there is no scientific evidence linking fresh mango consumption to diabetes or weight gain. In fact, mangoes are rich in fibre, antioxidants, and polyphenols, compounds that may offer anti-cancer benefits.

In her latest social media video, Rujuta says, “This video is a reminder, like every year, that summer is here, and you should eat a mango daily. Mango does not cause diabetes, obesity, or pimples. Just soak the mango in water for 30 minutes before eating, and then enjoy it. Mangoes are naturally sweet, delicious, and full of nutrients. Everything people look for in wellness products is already present in this seasonal fruit.”

Wrong Information Is Harmful, Not Mangoes

Rujuta further explains that mangoes are a fruit people still look forward to, waiting for them to ripen naturally, then cutting them open to savour their taste, juice, and fragrance. “Don’t deprive yourself of this experience,” she says. “Eating a mango a day can chase away sadness — and in today’s world, we could all use that.” She also points out that even the American Diabetes Association recommends eating mangoes when they are in season.
