- The USPS handles mail-in and absentee ballots in presidential elections
Donald Trump says that the United States Postal Service (USPS) is running the 2024 election in a new post that accuses the agency of being unprepared to handle mail-in ballots.
The former president pointed to frequent delays and lost mail as proof that USPS cannot be trusted to receive and deliver 2024 ballots filled out at home.
Absentee, early and at-home voting has become much more popular since the COVID-19 pandemic forced states and the federal government to adapt to allowing voters to cast their ballots by mail.
But Trump and his allies claim this is what led to their allegations of massive fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Donald Trump claims the U.S. Postal Service is running the 2024 election and is not prepared to handle mail-in ballots
‘The United States Postal Service has admitted that it is a poorly run mess that is experiencing mail loss and delays at a level never seen before,’ Trump posted to his Truth Social on Sunday morning.
‘With this being the FACT, how can we possibly be expected to allow or trust the U.S. Postal Service to run the 2024 Presidential Election?’ he questioned. ‘It is not possible for them to do so. HELP!’
When filling out ballots at home, voters can either send them back through the mail or return them in a drop box specifically meant for the ballots.
Trump claimed in a follow-up post on Sunday that CNN reported the USPS was not prepared for an influx of ballots.
The former president didn’t cite exactly where he got the information, but it appears to point to a 2020 report from CNN that said some states were worried they wouldn’t be able to deliver ballots on time based on election laws.
Those who fill out ballots early or by mail can either send them through USPS or turn them in at a dedicated ballot drop box
‘The United States Postal Service is not prepared for this massive influx of Ballots.’ CNN,’ Trump posted on Truth Social.
Multiple lawsuits are still ongoing from Trump and his camp that allege the 2020 election was riddled with fraud and interference by Democrats. None have been successful so far.
Trump is also facing legal battles related to his claims that the election was ‘stolen.’
And the 2024 Republican presidential nominee still maintains that he was the rightful winner against President Joe Biden in the last election.
