Donald Trump will be sworn in at noon when the temperature will likely be in the high teens or low 20s, making it the second- or third-coldest Inauguration Day in recent history.

Weather forecasters said that US President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20 will be one of the coldest on record. Forecasts expect afternoon high temperature in the mid-20s, sustained winds of around 15 mph and gusts of up to more than 30 mph, as per AccuWeather.

Donald Trump will be sworn in at noon when the temperature will likely be in the high teens or low 20s, making it the second- or third-coldest Inauguration Day in recent history.

The chilly weather has been attributed to cold Arctic air which will spill south through Canada and rush into the northern US, expanding over West and Central US before reaching parts of the South and East.

What about weather for past inaugurations

Donald Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 saw light rain and a high temperature of 48 degrees. Ronald Reagan’s first inauguration in 1981 saw a high temperature of 55 degrees but his second inauguration in 1985 had to be conducted indoors owing to noon temperature being just 7 degrees and wind chill between 10 and 20 degrees below zero.

John F. Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961 witnessed eight inches of fresh snow and a noon temperature of 22 degrees. Just three other inaugurations had a noon temperature below 30 degrees which were: Franklin D. Roosevelt’s third inauguration in 1941 (29 degrees), Jimmy Carter in 1977 (28 degrees) and Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2009 (28 degrees).

Joe Biden’s swearing-in ceremony in 2021 was conducted in a temperature of 42 degrees and cloudy weather.

Before 1937, US Presidents were inaugurated on March 4. Of these, Woodrow Wilson’s first inauguration in 1913 was the warmest with a noon temperature of 55 degrees and Ulysses S. Grant’s second inauguration in 1873 was the coldest at 16 degrees.
