GST Portal Experiences Outage

The GST Network earlier acknowledged some technical issues that affected the filing of GST-1 summaries, assuring taxpayers that a fix was underway and a request had been made to the Central Board of Indirect Tax to consider extending the filing deadline, which was January 11 for the December 2024 tax period.

“Dear Taxpayers! GST portal is currently experiencing technical issues and is under maintenance. We expect the portal to be operational by 12:00 noon. CBIC is being sent an incident report to consider extension in filing date,” said the GST Network.

Users encountered the message while accessing the GST portal: Scheduled Downtime! We are enhancing the services on the site. The services will not be available from 10th Jan’25 12:00 AM to 10th Jan’25 03:00 PM. Kindly come back later! In case of any queries, please call us at 1800-103-4786. We appreciate your cooperation and patience.” The portal was back online by 6 pm on Friday.

Taxpayers expressed frustration with repeated delays in filing tax returns. “We have lot of patience. Don’t worry. We have seen tons of glitches like this from day 1 of portal and paid penalties. Of Course!! Even if anyone lost patience, no one is there to hear. Whatever you people do, that has to be followed.. That’s it know..,” wrote one user.

“First it was 12 pm, then 3 pm, now 6 pm. What is the use of working 70+ hours a week when a fiasco like this can happen, that too a day before the due date,” another individual wrote in the comments.

“Announce extension on time. Let business owners relax. Whenever a portal is down so near to due date, extension announcement should be immediate to clear uncertainty,” another user said.
