An EasyJet flight was forced to make an emergency landing after two families burst-up after a row erupted over The Karate Kid.
During a flight from Lanzarote to London Gatwick, a five-year-old boy, who along with his family was returning from a holiday in Lanzarote, onboard the flight was watching the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid on his iPad with the volume set low. However, a woman sitting four rows in front reportedly became irritated and asked him to turn it off, The Sun reported.
The boy’s mother, 26, however, claimed that her son was shouted at and racially abused. She further claimed that the woman’s partner reportedly grabbed the boy’s disabled father by the neck.
Sources claimed that both the families displayed aggressive behaviour towards airline crew during the incident. As things escalated, the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in Porto, leaving both families to make their own way home.
However, the boy’s mother insisted that they were the victims in the situation. Speaking to The Sun, she said, “This incident involved racial abuse, discrimination, and physical assault. My son was left extremely scared and distressed.”
She further said that her family should have been supported and has spent months complaining to easyJet without a response.
EasyJet issued a statement following the incident, saying: “Safety is our highest priority. We do not tolerate disruptive behaviour.”
The carrier has comprehensive regulations regarding passenger behaviour in its conditions of carriage rulebook.
