Elon Musk has reportedly offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion, triggering an ugly exchange between himself and Sam Altman who later described the Tesla CEO as an “insecure” person.

Escalating the ugly exchange between the two tech billionaires, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Tuesday termed Elon Musk’s offer to buy the artificial intelligence startup’s assets for $97.4 billion as an act “from a position of insecurity”, while lamenting that the Tesla CEO is “not a happy person”.
This comes after Musk reportedly is part of a group that is ready to bid for the ChatGPT marker for $97.4 billion.
“Probably his whole life is from a position of insecurity,” Altman said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on the sidelines of the Paris AI Summit where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a co-chair.
“I feel for the guy. I don’t think he’s a happy person,” he added, as per various US publications, including the New York Post and The Hill.
Notably, Altman and Musk co-founded OpenAI as a non-profit in 2015, however, due to disagreements over its long-term direction, the duo fell out. Since then, Musk has founded xAI to compete with OpenAI.
Altman accused Musk of “probably just trying to slow us down” with the move to buy OpenAI.
“He obviously is a competitor. I wish he would just compete by building a better product, but I think there’s been a lot of tactics, many, many lawsuits, all sorts of other crazy stuff, now this,” The New York Post quoted Altman as saying.
The OpenAI boss reiterated that his platform is “not for sale”. “It’s another one of his tactics to try to mess with us,” Altman said.
