Elon Musk and OpenAI go long back with their focus in the AI space and Altman is now getting a closer look at how Musk operates.
Musk is willing to pay big money for OpenAI but will Altman sell?
Elon Musk already bought Twitter, now called X for big money and now it seems he is ready to pump in more money to buy OpenAI. Yes, Musk is reportedly part of a group that is ready to bid for the ChatGPT marker with a reported bid of around $97 billion.
The details come via a Bloomberg report on Tuesday and is the latest round of tussle between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The bid to buy OpenAI for $97 billion was understandably seen by Altman, who cheekily made this remark on the platform owned by Elon Musk. “No Thank you but we will buy Twitter (X) for $9.74 billion if you want.”

This is the latest chapter of Musk vs Altman, who have clearly been at loggerheads over the past few years. Musk even started the X AI startup to compete with Altman’s OpenAI, where they now have Grok AI and ChatGPT AI chatbots in the market.
Musk spent $44 billion to buy Twitter, which has since then been rebranded to X and added a host of features. But that purchase has not prospered for Musk and his business, with market value being halved and even more since then.
So, the $10 billion bid for X is probably Altman playing the game in front of the world. Musk has shown his intent in buying these big platforms but even then you cannot really gauge whether the rumoured bid to buy OpenAI was a legit move or just to get Altman tickled. Either way, this isn’t the last time we are going to see Musk and Altman go against each other and with the rapidly evolving AI battle out there, we might see the equation get fiercer than before.
