An employee who fell asleep in his office for a short time was subsequently dismissed. In retaliation, he took revenge that cost the company a hefty compensation of Rs 40 lakh. This incident has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread reactions.

According to the South China Morning Post, the incident involved a man named Zhang from Jiangsu province in China. Zhang worked as a manager at a department store, having dedicated 20 years of service.

Earlier this year, the store’s camera caught Zhang sleeping at midnight. The HR department, citing sleeping at the workplace due to fatigue and violation of company discipline, terminated his employment.

Unhappy with the dismissal, Zhang took the matter to court. The judge, while delivering the verdict, stated, “Sleeping on the job was a first-time offence and the company has not suffered any serious loss due to this.” The judge further added that an employee with 20 years of service cannot be dismissed for such a reason. The court ordered the company to compensate Zhang with Rs 40 lakh.
