The process of assigning and activating a Universal Account Number (UAN) is now simpler thanks to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). According to a circular issued by the retirement fund organisation, three new features have been added to the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app to provide a smooth experience for staff members and EPF members by utilizing Aadhaar’s Face Authentication Technology (FAT).
The circular states that EPF members must download both the Aadhaar Face RD and UMANG apps from the Play Store. After it is installed, users can use their smartphones to obtain and activate their UAN without assistance from employers or EPFO representatives.

The UMANG app offers the following services to recently recruited EPF members:
– Direct UAN Allotment and Activation: This service is intended for users who wish to generate and activate a UAN immediately but do not currently have one.
– UAN Activation for Existing UANs: This is for EPF members who do not yet have their UAN activated but already have one.
– Face Authentication for Already Activated UANs: For face recognition-based database updates and safe identity verification.
