Medical staff rushed to the aid of Luton midfielder Tahith Chong, who collapsed on the pitch during his side’s Championship clash at Plymouth.

The former Manchester youngster was immobile on the edge of the penalty area just before the half-time interval.

The 24-year-old was quickly seen to, with a stretcher brought onto the field. However, fortunately, Chong was quickly seen back on his feet and was able to walk back to the visitor’s dressing room.

Chong reportedly had a large lump on the left side of his forehead following a collision. He was replaced at the break by Jacob Brown.

‘Great to see Tahith Chong walking off following treatment, after he went down towards the end of the first half.’ A post from Plymouth’s X account read.

‘He’s up and about and fine,’ Luton boss Rob Edwards said after the match. ‘So we’ll see the extent of it concussion wise. He was a bit sore but he’s fine.’

Chong joined Luton from Birmingham last summer and made 38 appearances for Edwards’ side as they were relegate from the Premier League. He netted five times in all competitions last term.

The versatile midfielder began his career at Old Trafford, where he made five appearances for the first team.

Wayne Rooney’s side enjoyed a one-goal advantage heading into the interval thanks to Rami Al Hajj’s 8th-minute opener before the incident occurred.

The home side doubled their lead at Home Park when substitute Ibrahim Cissoko netted in the 69th minute.

But Luton looked set to stage a late comeback after Victor Moses’ smart finish just two minutes later as the game hurtled towards a tense finish.

The strike was the Nigerian’s first goal in English football since leaving Chelsea in 2018.  Unfortunately for the visitors, they were ultimately left empty-handed, with their defeat confirmed by Cissoko’s second late on.

Defeat leaves them 16th, while Rooney’s side climbed to 13th in the standings after just their second win of the Championship season in seven games, losing three and drawing the other two.
