A piece of fake news recently went viral on social media. The image claimed that the Reserve Bank of India would issue Rs 7 coins favouring former Indian team cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The image claimed that the RBI is doing this for his contributions to Indian cricket. However, the Press Information Bureau found this claim misleading in their fact check. Attaching the fake infographic to the tweet, PIB wrote,” The claim made in the image is #fake. The Department of Economic Affairs has made NO such announcement.” The PIB has also tagged the Ministry of Finance, DD News, All India Radio News, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Central Bureau of Communication.

The spread of fake news can lead to the spread of fraudulent information about a person or place.
