Maharashtra New CM: The trio left for Raj Bhavan shortly after holding a key Mahayuti meeting on portfolios at the Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai
Maharashtra Government Formation: Key Mahayuti leaders, Maharashtra Chief Minister-elect and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, and Nationalist Congress Party’s Ajit Pawar, met Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Mumbai’s Raj Bhavan on Wednesday afternoon to stake claim to form the government.
After meeting the governor, the key Mahayuti leaders jointly held a press conference, where Fadnavis declared Ajit Pawar his deputy-elect.
He said both Pawar and Shinde had recommended his name for the CM position in their letter of support.
Meanwhile, the suspense continues over Shinde’s portfolio. The Maharashtra CM-elect said, “I have requested Eknath Shinde to be a part of the government and accept the deputy post.”
What Pawar Said?
During the presser, Ajit Pawar clarified that he hadn’t gone to Delhi to meet senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said he went there because his wife was allocated a house as she was a member of the Rajya Shabha and he had to meet his lawyers for the NCP symbol case.
He added that he was keeping his allies posted about his whereabouts and wanted to work for the welfare of people.
What Shinde Said?
Next up, Shinde said 2.5 years ago, Fadnavis backed him for the CM post and now he was doing the same for Fadnavis. He reiterated that the key leaders were on the same page and that the BJP top brass had been supporting them in their decisions.
He said the trio met the Governor, who okayed administering oath to Fadnavis and his team on December 5 (Thursday).
He said, “Fadnavis is an experienced leader and I support him in his endeavors. I wish him luck.”
He added that even Ajit Pawar was a seasoned person and he full faith in him.
The trio left for Raj Bhavan shortly after holding a key Mahayuti meeting on portfolios at the Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. Ahead of the meeting, Shiv Sena MLAs felicitated Fadnavis and congratulated him on being elected BJP Legislative Party’s leader unanimously earlier this morning.

CM-elect Devendra Fadnavis and his deputy-elect Ajit Pawar will be sworn in on Thursday around 5:30 pm at a grand event organised at the Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other prominent BJP leaders will attend the event.
