Football fans have been left seething once again after Sunday’s broadcast of NFL RedZone featured commercials for the second week running.
The NFL sparked outrage last weekend after breaking its long trend of commercial-free football on RedZone, which features simulcast coverage of every Sunday fixture from 1pm until 8pm ET.
Long-time host Scott Hanson was even forced to issue an apology earlier this week for opening last Sunday’s show with his famous ‘seven hours of commercial-free football’ catchphrase before four sets of ads were shown during the broadcast.
Yet despite his apology, and the NFL insisting the commercials last weekend were simply a ‘test’, the latest edition of RedZone included them once again.
Hanson even tweaked his catchphrase before Sunday’s games got underway by simply saying: ‘From this point forward, it’s seven hours of RedZone football’.
‘Leave it to @NFL to destroy the best product they have. So disappointing,’ one user wrote on X.

Another posted: ‘Genuinely disgusting. Multibillion dollar company can’t just be content with their ungodly amounts of money. Gotta ruin the thing everyone enjoys.’
A third put: ‘Commercials during RedZone is an absolute crime against humanity and I’m not even kidding’.Â
While one simply commented: ‘An obscene disgrace.’
After the backlash to last week’s episode, Hanson admitted he was ‘conflicted’ about using typical catchphrase while issuing an apology to NFL fans.Â
‘Hey everyone. As we kick off a great football weekend, I just wanted to take a quick second and apologize for using the commercial-free catchphrase at the top of last show,’ he said in a video message on social media.
‘I was conflicted about it beforehand. I had a tough decision to make and I made the wrong decision, and I’m sorry.
‘I try to be the best host I can possibly be. What we have shared together and what we have seen and experienced together for 16 seasons on NFL RedZone is unlikely anything else. I love it. I hope to do it for 16 more years.
‘But being a great host means being accurate, being truthful and having integrity – and so I hope you consider accepting this apology.’
