Father-of-three dies in his wife’s arms after suffering heart attack while confronting thieves stealing his pick up

An Atlanta father-of-three died in his wife’s arms of a heart attack just moments after confronting two young men who were trying to steal his pickup truck.

Javon Brown, 48, had just woken up for work at 4.30 am on Friday, when he and his wife, Tasha, heard a commotion outside.

‘My side of the bed is closest to the window,’ Tasha explained to Fox 5 Atlanta.

‘I heard noises, scraping. I looked out the window and saw someone breaking into his truck,’ she recounted.

At that point, Javon grabbed his gun and tried to scare off the would-be thieves.

‘He came out the front door, and stood here, just yelling down the driveway’ to get off their property, get out of his truck and leave, Tasha said.

But the assailants instead decided to start shooting.

‘I have three small children at home… So I was trying to just hustle them to safety,’ the now widow said.

Meanwhile, she said, she was left worrying about her husband, hoping he did not get shot as neighbors described hearing a barrage of bullets.

Fortunately, Javon was not struck during the shoot-out, and the suspects fled the scene.

But when he walked back into the house, he collapsed.

‘He was able to speak,’ Tasha recounted. ‘He was not hit. But then he went into cardiac arrest over the shock.

‘He dropped down. I did CPR. I called 911 until I couldn’t feel my arms and hands, but it wasn’t enough.’

By the time police arrived at the scene, Javon was already dead inside the doorway, the Atlanta Police Department reported.

Homicide detectives are now working with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office to investigate the incident, as the suspects remain at large.

In the meantime, Tasha is reeling from the tragedy.

‘You work so hard. You do the right thing. You take care of your home and take care of your family and someone just feels entitled to come and try to take it from you,’ she said.
