The FBI has discovered 2,400 new files related to President John F Kennedy’s assassination following an order from President Trump to release the classified documents, according to reports. These files contain around 14,000 pages of material that a disclosure board was meant to review but never did, as reported by Axios on Monday.

The White House became aware of the previously unseen documents on Friday, as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence presented a plan to release the remaining files.

“This is huge. It shows the FBI is taking this seriously,” said Jefferson Morley, vice president of the Mary Ferrell Foundation, which holds the largest online collection of JFK assassination records. “The FBI is finally responding to the president’s order, rather than continuing the secrecy,” he added.

The exact contents of the new files remain undisclosed for now. Trump had ordered the release of all files related to Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, a case that has been surrounded by conspiracy theories for decades. However, experts warn that the final release is unlikely to provide definitive answers about the official narrative—that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone—or about the conspiracy theories involving possible involvement by government or criminal groups.

The 1992 JFK Records Act required that all documents connected to the assassination and investigation be submitted to an official JFK Assassination Records Review Board and the National Archives, with the intention of full disclosure by 2017. During his first term, Trump blocked the complete release on the advice of the CIA but later expressed regret over that decision.

A partial release of records occurred under Biden, but it yielded no new revelations.

“Everything will be revealed,” Trump said on January 23 while signing the latest release order, which also requested the release of documents related to the assassinations of Robert F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

Trump’s order dictates that all documents should be released by March 9, though some sources told Axios that heavy redactions are still being applied, which could frustrate Trump. “This is total deep state bulls**t,” one source said.
