Former Barcelona stars Messi and Suarez congratulated the Catalan side on their latest La Liga title.

Lionel Messi sent a special message to Barcelona after his former team won their 28th LaLiga title with a commanding away win over Espanyol on Friday. With Lamine Yamal delivering a phenomenal performance, Barcelona defeated their cross-city rivals 2-0 at the RCDE Stadium. The LaLiga title completes a domestic treble for Hansi Flick’s men, who have previously won the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey this season.
Barcelona players and coaching staff were elated after securing the Spanish championship, and glimpses of their emphatic celebration were shared on the club’s official Instagram handle. To everyone’s surprise, the post attracted a reaction from Messi, the all-time top scorer of Barcelona.
The Argentine football icon, who spent more than 15 years at the Catalan city, “congratulated” Barcelona on their recent achievement. Luis Suarez also reacted to the same post and dropped a “heart eye emoji” in the comment box.
Messi and Suarez, who currently represent Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer (MLS), shared the Barcelona dressing room from 2014 to 2020.
During this six-season period, the duo helped the club win four LaLigas, as many Copa del Reys, two Spanish Super Cups, one Champions League title, a Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup. They reunited at Inter Miami in 2024 after Suarez joined the David Beckham-co-owned club, signing a one-year deal.
When it comes to the current Barcelona, Hansi Flick deserves much credit for their unprecedented rise. The German coach, who took over the helm in May last year, has already become a fan favourite. Players like Raphinha, Frankie de Jong, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres have shown significant improvement under Flick.
Yamal has been a key component of the Barcelona squad this term. The 17-year-old winger has scored eight goals and provided 15 assists in his 33 appearances in the 2024-25 LaLiga. His attacking partnership with Raphinha has clicked well. The Brazilian forward has registered 18 goals and 11 assists in the Spanish top tier.
Despite their dominance in domestic competitions, Barcelona have narrowly missed out on their first Champions League title in a decade. They suffered a 6-7 victory on aggregate in the two-leg semi-finals against Inter Milan to crash out of the continental showpiece.
