India’s finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the union budget today in the Parliament. For this important session, she donned a traditional saree and embraced an Indian art form as well. The finance minister opted for a beautiful cream saree that featured a Madhubani design on it. With this saree, she gave a nod to Padma awardee Dulari Devi.

To present her eighth consecutive union budget, Nirmala Sitharaman wore a beautiful cream saree which came with a traditional gold border. She paired the saree with a contrasting red blouse. She kept the accessories practical and minimal. She opted for traditional gold bangles, a chain, and earrings.

While the saree was elegant and chic, what made it stand out among fashion enthusiasts was the Madhubani motif which adorned the saree. Madhubani is a traditional folk art form from the Mithila region of Bihar. The artwork often includes intricate geometric patterns and floral motifs. It tells the tales of nature and mythology. Madhubani is known for its vibrant colours and symmetrical design. As reported by ANI, the saree was a tribute to Madhubani art and Dulari Devi. Her saree embraced the rich art form and also supported its rich history.

Over the years, Nirmala Sitharaman has donned some gorgeous traditional sarees as she presented the Union Budget. Back in 2024, she wore a blue saree that was adorned with white floral motifs. She paired it with a cream-coloured blouse. In 2023, she wore a red saree with a black geometric pattern and golden accents. In 2022, she opted for a terracotta saree which had elephant motifs on the pallu. In 2021, she wore a red and white saree which came with contrasting green accent borders. Similarly, in 2020, she donned a bright yellow saree.
