Finger painting is a brain stimulating activity for kids.

Finger painting can help instill a sense of confidence in your child. It can assure that your kids do not develop low self esteem during their teenage years.

Entertainment activities for children have moved from outdoors to indoors over the last decade and a half. The internet, social media and online gaming have taken up the bulk of children’s time, the majority of whom no longer spend their leisure time in parks playing outdoor games. If your kid does not want to go out for extracurricular activities, maybe it is time to look for an activity that does not need them to go out and at the same time be an engaging alternative to screen time. This is where the art of finger painting comes in.

You can introduce your kid to a world of creative imagination through finger painting. Children can explore, learn and grow via sensory play by finger painting.

Children’s imagination is stimulated when they can play with colour and design and feel the cool, squishy texture of the paint. They can also effectively communicate their emotions through it. Children’s fine motor abilities, which they will eventually require for writing, are also developed through finger painting. And of course, the most integral part is that it is really fun and your child will not complain about being kept away from their mobile games.

Krish Nawal, Co-Founder of Children’s Art Museum shared with the Hindustan Times that apart from being fun, it also does instill a sense of confidence in the child. Low esteem is an issue many teenagers face in today’s times and taking pride in their creation right from their formative years can assure that such issues do not take place at a later stage. It is also educational as your child gets to learn to distinguish between colours.

After completing a finger painting, kids can be asked to discuss their creations. They could discuss the many colours they’ve used or the various items they’ve attempted to make, for instance. Furthermore, finger painting gives children a means of expressing their emotions visually rather than verbally, which contributes to language development.

Of course, finger painting does not and should not just be limited to your kids. You can join in the fun and soon you will find it is quite addictive. And if we delve deeper into it, it can serve some amazing mental benefits too. There is no greater freedom of self-expression than with finger painting.

With this exercise, the expression of emotions is limitless. All it takes is going all out and using paint-dipped fingers to transfer all of one’s emotions onto a sheet of paper. When painting, you could unconsciously select colours that convey your feelings. For instance, you may choose the colour green to convey hope or red to convey rage. Finger painting can also be a stress buster for people who are stressed, something that is quite common these days.
