Parliament Scuffle: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was booked by the Delhi Police based on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) complaint in regard to the Parliament scuffle on Thursday. The FIR alleged that he violated the security personnel’s instructions to use the designated route for entry into the building and incited other INDIA bloc MPs to disrupt the MPs’ protest with force and aggression, “endangering their safety.”
The complaint against the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition was filed by BJP MP Hemang Joshi after two party MPs – Pratap Sarangi and Mukhesh Rajput – were allegedly injured in the alleged scuffle. The BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi pushed them, leading to their head injuries, which necessitated immediate medical attention for which they were rushed to RML Hospital.
In turn, Congress also alleged that the BJP MPs resorted to pushing its MPs during protest march, in which party president and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was injured. Rahul Gandhi also claimed that he was pushed instead and stopped from entering the Parliament by the BJP lawmakers.
What’s There In FIR Against Rahul Gandhi?
According to the FIR, the BJP MPs, including Sarangi and Rajput, were protesting at the Makar Dwar of the Parliament gate at around 10 am against “misinformation” spread by the Opposition.
Rahul Gandhi arrived at the scene between 10.40 and 10.45 am and was requested by Parliament security to “follow the designated entry route”.
However, the Congress leader “ignored” the instructions “with malicious intent to disrupt the protest and physically harm NDA MPs”, the FIR said.
“Not only did Shri Rahul Gandhi and others violate security personnel’s instructions to take the designated route, but they also incited other members of the opposition alliance to advance towards the protesting MPs with force and aggression, endangering their safety,” the FIR read.
It further said that Rahul Gandhi’s “reckless and intentional actions” in which he was fully aware of serious or life-threatening injuries from falling, he allegedly pushed the MPs.
“Mukesh Rajput sustained a severe injury to the back of his head. Pratap Rao Sarangi sustained an injury to his forehead,” the FIR said.
The BJP MP claimed that he personally witnessed the incident as he was a participant of the protest.
He said that Rahul Gandhi’s actions were “deliberate, intentional, and malicious, fully aware of the potential consequences” and his behaviour constitutes a criminal assault, incitement to violence against peaceful protesters.
Congress Demands CCTV Footage To Be Made Public
Rahul Gandhi took on the government over the matter and dared the BJP to release the CCTV footage of the Parliament in which he pushed the BJP MPs.
“Absolutely, we want them to release the CCTV footage immediately. The truth will come out, and everyone will know the truth. You all saw everything there yourselves,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also demanded the BJP to release the CCTV footage.
“There is a CCTV network all across the Parliament. A bird cannot flutter without being captured on CCTV. Despite this, the BJP is building a castle of lies. It’s a challenge, show us the CCTV footage of Rahul Gandhi pushing someone – everything will be clear,” Shrinate posted on X.
The Congress MPs will protest at Vijay Chowk at 10 am today against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The party has also demanded an unconditional apology from him, along with his resignation.
