Rukmini, once reliant on NREGA wages to run her household, is now the CEO of her own company. Durga Solar Company, officially known as Dungarpur Renewable Energy Technology Private Limited, has steadily established a strong foundation under her leadership.
Currently, Rukmini provides employment to 50 women, empowering them through the manufacture of solar plates, bulbs, and various equipment.
Hailing from the small village of Madwa Khaparda in Dungarpur district, Rajasthan, Rukmini Katara’s inspiring journey from a labourer to a CEO is both uplifting and poignant. Her transformation began when she learned about Rajivika, an organisation that led her to join a self-help group and acquire skills in making and installing solar lamps and plates. Progressing through the ranks, she eventually became the CEO of Durga Solar Company.
Under Rukmini’s stewardship, the company has achieved a turnover of more than Rs 3.5 crore in the past five years. Her story is not merely about numbers; it encapsulates a tale of courage and perseverance.
In 2016, she was honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a programme in Delhi. During the event, she proudly remarked, “Women should never stop themselves because they have less education. You can grow even with less education.”
Rukmini’s personal life is equally fulfilling. She is married to Kamlesh and has four children: Rakesh, Asha, Praveen, and Yuvraj. The eldest two, Rakesh and Asha, are pursuing B.Ed, while Praveen and Yuvraj are still in college.
As a CEO and an inspiring figure for tribal women, Rukmini emphasises, “I studied only up to the ninth standard. But today I am the owner of a company. So why can’t other women do this?”
Her confidence and determination to inspire others shine brightly. Rukmini Katara is not just a business leader but a beacon of hope, transforming both her destiny and the world around her.
