In summer, stepping out in the sun becomes uncomfortable for most people. When it comes to taking small children outdoors, extra precautions must be taken. It is crucial to shield babies from heatwaves and the harmful UV rays of the sun, as their skin is extremely delicate and prone to irritation.
Here are some simple yet effective tips to help protect your baby from the harshness of summer:
Avoid Direct Sun Exposure Between 10 am And 4 pm
UV rays are strongest during this period. Try not to take your baby outside during these hours. If going out is unavoidable, keep them in the shade or use a pram cover or sunshade.
Dress your Baby In Light, Cotton, Full-Sleeved Clothes
Choose light-coloured, loose-fitting garments that cover the skin but keep the baby cool. A wide-brimmed hat and baby-safe sunglasses can offer additional protection.
Apply Baby-Safe Sunscreen (For Babies Above 6 Months)
For babies older than 6 months, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Opt for a fragrance-free, paraben-free formula. Apply 15-20 minutes before heading out and reapply every 2-3 hours.
Keep Your Baby Hydrated
Continue feeding regularly. If your baby is over 6 months old, you can offer small amounts of water. Dehydration can happen quickly during heatwaves, so stay attentive.
Maintain A Cool, Well-Ventilated Home Environment
Avoid direct sunlight in the room. Use cotton curtains or blinds and ensure proper use of fans, coolers, or ACs. You can sponge the baby with lukewarm water once or twice a day to help regulate body temperature.
