Shirley MacLaine is searching for a personal assistant who can make her a cocktail every night.
The Hollywood icon, 90, is on the lookout for a new personal assistant who can fulfil a very specific requirement – to enjoy a ‘cocktail’ with her every evening.
The actress appears to be in a particularly reflective mood of late, with insiders telling DailyMail.com that whoever lands the job would need to be able to ‘discuss her movies and career’ while they sip their tipples.
With a celebrated career that has seen her shine bright onscreen as well as on Broadway, Shirley certainly has an abundance of tales to share with a future staffer.
‘Shirley recently asked friends if they could recommend a personal assistant for her. She gave her pals a short list of requirements for the job, the insider exclusively told MailOnline.
‘The main qualifications she has required are that the applicants need to be available for a cocktail with her at 5pm, and then be able to discuss her movies and career. Night after night.’
Naturally, the Steel Magnolias actress was asked by pals if there were any other qualities she would love her future assistant to have.
The source added: ‘When one of her circle asked if there was anything else involved, the Oscar winner shrugged and said she thought that would be enough.’
On top of getting to spend quality time enjoying a drink with the acting legend, the actress has promised to be ‘very generous’ when it to comes to pay – which will be negotiable.

Rap legend Snoop Dogg made headlines when it was revealed that he has a full time blunt roller who he pays $50,000 per year.
The flamboyant American rapper, 53, has had a full-time joint roller since 2016, with his former employee once revealing he smokes up to 150 marijuana blunts a day.
In 2022, his employee, known as Renegade, revealed she had rolled more than 450,000 joints for Snoop during that time.
‘I calculate it at over 450,000. I do about half a pound a day, which is 75 to 150 joints,’ she told radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.
Kyle said he once spent time in California with Snoop, who told him he’d learned how to roll joints from late hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur.
‘He said, “I’m going to teach you something Tupac taught me,” and he showed me how to roll a blunt,’ Kyle explained.
Mariah Carey – staircase assistance
Pop diva Mariah Carey, 55, was reported to have demanded a ‘staircase assistant’ when making an appearance on British comedian Alan Carr’s The Friday Night Project
Pop diva Mariah Carey, 55, was reported to have demanded a ‘staircase assistant’ when making an appearance on British comedian Alan Carr’s The Friday Night Project.
She famously ‘doesn’t do stairs’, but how she gets around is not the only demand Mariah is particular about.
The rumour of Mariah’s transportation demands was kicked off by Alan Carr who, following the singer’s appearance on Channel 4’s The Friday Night Project in 2008, claimed that she demanded a ‘staircase assistant’.
But the star has made other demands, including once ordering that her dressing room be divided into two: a ‘comfortable living area’ on one side and a ‘make-up and hair area’ on the other.
Busy patterns on any surface were strictly banned, a full dinner service and tea service needed to be available and only a £200 bottle of vintage claret would do.
Mariah also reportedly once asked for 20 white kittens and 100 white doves in her dressing room and needs an assistant to hand her chewing gum.
Another rumour is that she once demanded vitamin water, no so that she could drink it, but so she could bathe her dogs.
Lady Gaga – 24/7 assistant
Lady Gaga, 38, allegedly demanded her former friend and assistant Jennifer O’Neill be on call 24/7 – and even sleep in the same bed
Lady Gaga, 38, allegedly demanded her former friend and assistant Jennifer O’Neill be on call 24/7 – and even sleep in the same bed.
Jennifer sued the singer and claimed nearly $400,000 in overtime pay, plus further damages, after serving at Gaga’s ‘beck and call’ from 2009 to 2011.
She worked for the singer for one to two months in early 2009 and for 13 months beginning in February 2010.
The judge said both sides agree she was expected to be available as needed throughout each hour of each day.
Judge Paul Gardephe ruled that Jennifer’s ‘on-call’ time potentially qualifies for overtime compensation.
Jennifer said she was paid at a flat rate of about $50,000 annually when she was first hired and $75,000 annually the second time by the pop singer, who is estimated in a list published by Forbes magazine to have earned $80 million in the first six months of this year.
Gardephe noted that lawyers said Gaga, listed in the litigation under her birth name – Stefani Germanotta – and Jennifer frequently slept in the same bed because Jennifer never had her own hotel room while on tour and was required to address Gaga’s needs throughout the night.
Jennifer had testified in a deposition that if Gaga was watching a DVD in the middle of the night and grew tired of it, she woke her up to take out and replace the DVD.
‘Every day is a work day for her, so every day is a work day for the rest of us,’ she said.
‘There is no, “We’re going to stay in, we’re going to sleep.” There is no, “Let’s put on sweatpants and go out to the movies and be girlfriends.” It doesn’t work like that,’ Jennifer said.
She alleged that she she put in 7,168 hours of unpaid overtime and is now owed more than $380,000, according to a report in the New York Post.
In her deposition testimony, Gaga had testified: ‘You don’t get a schedule. You don’t get a schedule that is like you punch in and you can play … at your desk for four hours and then you punch out at the end of the day. This is when I need you, you’re available.’
Robert De Niro – personal back scratcher
Robert De Niro, 81, admitted in a Manhattan court in 2023 that he ordered his former ‘office wife’ assistant to scratch his back, angrily declaring: ‘You got me!’
Robert De Niro, 81, admitted in a Manhattan court in 2023 that he ordered his former ‘office wife’ assistant to scratch his back, angrily declaring: ‘You got me!’
It was revealed in court that he treated her like an ‘office wife’ – asking her to perform menial tasks including washing his sheets and scratching his back.
The actor faced accusations he discriminated against his former assistant Graham Chase Robinson in a four-year legal battle that went to trial last October.
His former staffer Graham accused the actor of gender discrimination while working for his company, Canal Productions.
Robert’s company initially sued Graham alleging improper spending of the company’s accounts.
On the second day of the trial, Robert became flustered and irate as he took to the stand to combat allegations he subjected Graham to years of abusive language, unwanted physical advances and misogyny.
In a startling moment while on the stand, the Oscar-winning actor confronted his accuser and said before a stunned courtroom: ‘Shame on you, Chase Robinson! God da**it! I’m sorry.’
Graham began working for Robert in 2008 as his assistant, and eventually rose to the position of vice-president of Canal Productions. It has been reported that she had a salary of $300,000 when she resigned in April 2019.
