Paras Milk, a well-known name in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas, delivers milk and dairy products to millions of households daily. Competing with industry giants like Mother Dairy and Amul, Paras Milk has become one of India’s largest dairy companies.
However, few know that its journey began with the sale of just 60 litres of milk. The company was founded by Ved Ram Nagar, who, with hard work and vision, transformed it into a prominent brand.
Born in 1933, Ved Ram Nagar started his career as a small milk seller at the age of 27, initially selling only 50-60 litres of milk daily. Despite the modest beginnings and limited growth expectations, Nagar’s deep understanding of the industry led him to realise that proper processing and large-scale distribution of milk could build a substantial business.
His dedication paid off, and in 1980, he established his first firm. By 1984, he had started a unit for processing milk and dairy products, and in 1986, he formed ‘V.R.S. Foods,’ which later evolved into a significant dairy company.
The turning point came in 1987 when he established his first major milk plant in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, increasing the capacity for large-scale processing and distribution. This was followed by another large plant in Gulavathi in 1992, accelerating the business and establishing the company as a reliable dairy brand.
In 2004, the company expanded beyond Delhi-NCR, setting up a milk plant in Gwalior, allowing it to reach other parts of India. Ved Ram Nagar passed away in 2005, and his sons took over, rebranding the company as ‘Vedram and Sons Private Limited’ in 2008. Under this new name, the company strengthened its position with the Paras brand and launched various milk-related products.
Today, the business has diversified beyond dairy into sectors such as healthcare, real estate, education, and pharmaceuticals, creating new income sources and establishing itself as a large business group. The family remains active in politics and social service, with one son, Surendra Singh Nagar, serving as a Rajya Sabha MP. The family also contributes to social causes through the Chaudhary Ved Ram Charitable Trust, focusing on education and health.
Paras Milk’s network now spans many states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, connecting directly to 5,400 villages. Thousands of farmers involved in dairy production and animal husbandry benefit from the company, which not only purchases milk but also provides financial assistance.
Currently, Paras Milk sells about 3.6 million litres of milk daily, maintaining a strong presence in Delhi-NCR and other major cities. The company has also introduced several dairy products like ghee, butter, cheese, curd, and flavoured milk, which are gaining popularity among consumers.
