Place Lord Ganesha’s idol in the north or west or the northwest.
The significance of bringing or placing different Ganesha idols discussed by astrologer Rishikant Mishra Shastri.
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a vibrant Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. It usually falls between August and September, depending on the lunar calendar. In 2024, the festival will be celebrated on September 7.
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed across India, but the celebrations are especially grand in Maharashtra. According to Sanatan Dharma, Lord Ganesha is worshipped before starting any auspicious work, as he is considered the remover of obstacles.
Astrologer Pandit Rishikant Mishra Shastri highlights the importance of keeping a Ganesha idol at home. Lord Ganesha is seen as a symbol of joy and happiness, and having his idol or photo in the house is believed to protect the household from negative energy. Placing a Ganesha idol near the main entrance is thought to prevent negative forces from entering.
Pandit Ji also suggests that the material of the Ganesha idol plays a role in bringing specific benefits. A silver idol brings fame, while idols made of mango, peepal, or neem wood bring good luck and energy. Grass idols bring happiness and prosperity, and wooden idols promote good health and longevity. A crystal idol helps remove Vaastu defects, and a turmeric idol is believed to bring auspiciousness. For newly married couples, a copper idol is considered especially beneficial, and an idol made from cow dung symbolizes good fortune.
Additionally, Pandit Ji stresses the importance of placing the Ganesha idol in the right direction. The west, north, or northwest directions are recommended to ensure that devotees receive the full blessings of Lord Ganesha. Proper placement, by traditional practices, enhances the effectiveness of rituals and offerings, bringing positive energy and prosperity into the home.
